Conditions of Use Rail Ticket

Rail Europe 1. A EuRail Pass can be used only by a person whose name appears on the pass. It is non-transferable and cannot to be used by any other person. It has to be used with a passport, personal ID card, or military permit. You have to show your documents and your passports to the conductor on a train or ferry.

2. A pass cannot be sold, issued or used by residents of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIR), Turkey, Morocco, Algeria or Tunisia. The exception is travelers who have traveled outside their country for more than 6 months can purchase this pass.

3. Traveling with this pass is comes under the same rules as the International Carriage of Passenger and Luggage by Race. For traveling by ferry in the sea, it is under the rules of each company.

4. Holders of a valid Pass are entitled to transportation bonuses on several ships, buses and private railroads. This free or discounted transportation can only be arranged locally at the office of the respective company offering the bonus. A complete list of bonuses is included on the complimentary Eurail map you will receive with your pass.

5. The pass holders can not use the pass before an officer record the first day of usage time and passport number onto the pass. The pass holders can not record the first day of usage time by themselves.

6. The pass holder can start using the pass any day within a period mentioned in the pass, but have to end your journey by midnight of the last day of your valid day. The pass holder can use any bonus milage while the pass still valid, such as ferry, boat and bus (both free of charge and special discount). The EuRail Flexipass holder have the right to travel as the day mentioned in Valid box on the pass. The pass holder with any special bonus that free of charge have to record onto the pass with blue or black marker on Travel Date box. Date recording have to be in order, for example 27th May = 27/05

EuRail Flexipass can be used from midnight to till midnight of the day mentioned in the Travel Date box. If you travel by night train which depart at 19:00 have to be recorded by the date of tomorrow, which include the time between 19:00 – 24:00 of the first usage day. In case you taking ferry at midnight, the pass holder can choose to record the departure or arrival date.

7. Usually additional fees are required for the use of high speed trains such as ICE (Germany), AVE and Talgo (Spain), Pendolino and ETR 500 (Italy), Pendolino S220 (Finland) ETR/Cisalpino (Switzerland/Italy), Thalys (France/Belgium/Netherlands). These fees include extra services on board. A seat reservation is compulsory. Please inquire in advance.

8. Your pass does not guarantee a seat on the train. When you plan to travel long distances you should make reservations in advance. On some trains it is even compulsory. Reservations are also compulsory for overnight sleeping facilities. Special trains such as EC, IC, TGV (French high speed train), X2000 (Swedish high speed train), Bernina Express, Panoramic Express, etc. are included in your pass. Seat reservation often is compulsory (please inquire in advance) and is not free of charge.

9. Passengers holding second-class passes are permitted to travel in first-class only if they pay the difference between the two fares as applicable locally.

10. Under no circumstances is the holder allowed to validate his or her own pass, nor should pass holders enter their own passport number. Any tampering or altering of passes will invalidate them and could incur a fine in local currency levied by train personnel. On Flexipasses, the holder must enter the date of each day of travel, in ink, in the appropriate box before boarding the first train of the day. Failure to comply with validation and date-of-use regulations will result in a fine collected onboard the train. Rail/Drive packages may require pre-validation. Warning! Penalties may be incurred.

Train staff is authorized to confiscate the Pass and/or demand the payment of the full fare plus a fine when the traveler:

  • cannot present a Pass and a valid passport.
  • travelers with a non-validated Pass.
  • uses a Pass on which the indications have been altered or tampered with.
  • uses a Pas which is forged or used by another than the person to whom it was issued.
  • uses a Pass beyond its validity period.

Special situations for holder of a Flexi Pass

Train staff is authorized to confiscate the Pass and/or demand the payment of full fare plus a fine when the traveler:

  • travels with a Pass on which the date in the corresponding box on the calendar has not entered.
  • has entered the date in the corresponding box on the Pass with a pencil.
  • has corrected the date in the corresponding box on the Pass.

The fine can amount from US$ 50 up to US$ 100, in local currency.
A traveler who refuses to pay the fare or the fine immediately can be refused from further transportation. In such circumstances traveler cannot demand his/her luggage being put at his/her disposal at a railway station other than its destination.

11. All fares are valid for sales and travel from 1st January 2006. Fares are subject to change and currency fluctuations.

12. Saver pass available for 2 to 5 persons traveling together at all times.

13. Youth pass available for travelers under 26 on the first day of the pass: 2nd class only

  • Eurail Select Pass must be presented for refund unused and not validated
  • An 85% refund applies to totally unused passes returned within one year of issuing date
  • Eurail Select Pass are not refundable and cannot be replaced if lost, stolen or partially used
  • Lost or stolen passes may be protected with the purchase of a Rail Protection Plan
